ORDINANCE TOPROVIDE FOR THE APPOINTMENT OF THE VILLAGE TREASURER
THE VILLAGEOF FREEPORT ORDAINS:
SECTION1. INTENT:
Asauthorized by Chapter II, Section 1 (3) of the General Law Village Act, beingAct 3 of the Public Acts of Michigan by 1895 as amended M.S.A. 5.1215 (3) andMCL 62.1 (3), the Village Treasurer shall be chosen by nomination of theVillage President and appointment by the majority of the Village Council. The Village Treasurer is an administrativeofficer of the village.
SECTION2. TERM OF OFFICE:
The VillageTreasurer shall serve a four-year term and may be reappointed by the VillageCouncil upon the completion of each four-year term. If a vacancy occurs through death orresignation the Village Council may appoint an acting Village Treasurer untilthe replacement has been selected. TheVillage Treasurer will report and be responsible to the Village President forthe official functions and activities of their office and for the day-to-dayoperations of their office, except as where provided by State law. The Village Treasurer will be an at willemployee of the Village of Freeport.
SECTION3. EFFECTIVE DATE:
Thisordinance shall take effect forty-five (45) days after the date of itsadoption, unless a petition signed by not less than 10 percent of theregistered electors of the village is filed with the acting Village Clerk orVillage office within such 45 days. If apetition is filed within such period of time, this ordinance shall then takeeffect only upon its approval at the next general village or special villageelection held on the question of whether the ordinance shall be approved. Notice of the delayed effect of this ordinanceand the right of petition under this section shall be published separately atthe same time and in the same manner as the ordinance or a notice of theordinance is published in a local newspaper of general circulation.
SECTION4. ADOPTION:
This ordinanceshall be adopted by an affirmation vote of at least two thirds of the membersof the Village council.
SECTION5. PUBLICATION:
The VillageClerk shall certify to the adoption of this ordinance and cause the same to bepublished as required by law.
